Audit of Iowa Film Industry Creates Concern
Mason City, IA- Iowa’s film industry is in jeopardy after the governor shuts down the tax credit program.
Chet Culver is suspending the program until the state auditor and department of revenue can conduct an investigation.
Culver says there are documents showing widespread abuses and errors in the tax credits given to film makers.
The director of the Iowa Independent Film Festival says he hopes the industry can keep running.
“Here is a good way of bringing money to the state, so I’m hoping that this problem they have down there is something they can resolve quickly and without impediment or slowing things up,” said Dick Shinnow.
Iowa film leaders say the 20 films shot using $31 million in tax incentives have generated $60 million for the state’s economy.
